Brisbane, Australia 20th August 2019 – Sally Brown was conferred with the EventsAir 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award at the EventsAir Rise User Conference by Trevor Gardiner CEO EventsAir in front of over 150 event colleagues.
“Every meeting planner knows what it takes to be a great meeting planner. You need to be calm, smart, have high attention to detail, manage pressure and deliver great events. To do this constantly for 2 to 3 years is admirable. To do this for 5 to 10 years shows determination and passion. To dedicate over 30 years to continually organise and execute events is awe inspiring. The personal resolve it takes to not give up when times are tough, when clients are unreasonable, when staff don’t turn up and still deliver exceptional events is something to be very proud of, and Sally Brown is a truly exceptional person.” Gardiner shared this about Sally in his speech at the award ceremony.
Trevor Gardiner first met Sally in 1990 at the University of Queensland (UQ) Conference Department. The department was Trevor Gardiner’s second customer for a conference registration software known simply as Events (the beginnings of EventsAir). Trevor Gardiner recalls Sally being the first person to explain to him what email was and she had thought it would be good to add a field for it in Events. Sally had worked as part of the UQ Conference Department until its closure in 1998.
Sally then set up her own event management business and ran this for over 20 years. Sally delivered over 110 conferences during this time, many with either an environmental or nature focus, both of which are passions for Sally.
Sally has always been a great supporter of EventsAir products. Sally first used the original Events in 1990, then Events for DOS the next year, Events for Windows in 1994, followed by EventsPro in 2000 for 14 years, and finally EventsAir till now. Sally adapted the way she ran conferences as new technology emerged such as automated fax confirmations, internet registration, email and e-commerce.
Sally has recently retired from the meetings industry, leaving a legacy that will not be forgotten. Whether it was contributing to Meeting and Events Australia, mentoring young meeting planners or simply setting a high standard for quality events that helped lift the entire industry, Sally has made a significant contribution over the past 30 years.
